4th of July How Are You Celebrating?

Hello DG Fam. I hope as the 4th of July comes to a close for most of you, you've had a chance to spend time with family, enjoy a drink with a stranger, laugh with a friend and most importantly remember that we live in one of the greatest countries on Earth despite is apparent flaws.

As I sit here its now 6:30AM and I'm in the center of Iraq, far off from family I love and the people I miss and all I can think about is how I hope "they" are safe, that they are happy.

This is what the men and women of your military forces work for each day. Whether the combat makes the news like Afghanistan or if the area is long forgotten like the Korean DMZ, these people put their lives on the line willingly, humbly and thanklessly so that we all may continue to strive for our individual (albeit selfish in some cases) goals.

I know it seems very out of character for me to post something that's not either related to promoting the site or its members and parties but today I just didn't have it in me. Instead, I thought of a young man who was killed here not long ago. I attended his service but did not know him personally but at the same time I did. I think all of us in uniform share the same thoughts and prayers for him and his family as well as those like him. He died doing what he loved and what he loved was putting himself in harm's way so no one else would have to.

For all those who do this daily, for those to whom this is daily routine I say thank you. Thank you because today people are celebrating all over and enjoying the fireworks, a chance to spend time with family, enjoy a drink with a stranger, laugh with a friend and most importantly remember that we live in one of the greatest countries on Earth.

And you made and keep it all possible. Just another day at the office.
