Where Hip Hop is Our Hustle
Club Envy - West Coast
They say that the view from the top is a lonely one. Appearently they never took the trip VIP style. At Club Envy (www.envysandiego.com), located inside the luxurious Ivy Hotel; you'll enjoy the view with a few friends, a few strangers, and quite a few drinks but the trip is far from cheap. You'll need deep pockets and a taste for the extravagant but Club Envy caters to both extremely well.
The building features an increadible green room and a hip hop room just below. The next deck above has a full featured dance floor but unfortunatly I was unable to check out neither due to my distinguested guests (more on that in my blog later).
The rooftop is where I spent my evening. The entire area is considered the VIP and has its own dancefloor, full bar, seating (which has couches that look better than any living space you'll see on MTV's cribs) and DJ. I'm a hip hop/r&b man myself so the music topside wasn't nessassarily my type, the mix included Top 40, house and Techno but I was assured by a reliable source that my usual selections were played earlier and would make their way back into the playlist rotation later in the evening.
As far as drinks go, this was standard san diego VIP fair. Most would tell you VIP is a scam and no one should ever pay $300 (at minimum) for a $15 bottle of alcohol. I would be one of those individuals, but I do understand the lure here. The atmosphere is amazing, giving you a clear view of Petco stadium and most of the Gaslamp area at its most magnificent and theres a decently large crowd yet not packed enough to feel uncomfortable.
Huge shout out to my new friend Mike who was our host for the evening and introduced me to probably the best Long Island I've had in a Dago club (only seconded by Croce's which doesn't actually count as a club).
So I'll have to go ahead and recommend Envy on its layout, customer service, and exclusivity. Oh and don't wear any hats.
